Vulvar Desensitization

Thinking Beyond the Dilators

I was given this link by Jackie Leduc, Owner of Cumberland Yoga & Mobility Studio in Ottawa Ontario. I’m attaching her website link HERE! Go visit because she’s very knowledgeable on the subject of Pelvic Floor healing and an all around wonderful human being 🙂

When I sat down to read this article by Morgan Conner, I wasn’t sure if her treatment process for vaginismus would be some of the same things I’ve always heard before. However, I was pleasantly surprised that she talked about something that I never really thought about:

Vulvar and clitoral desensitization.

It sounds strange at first, but when it was explained in greater detail, I was flabbergasted that nobody had ever had me do this.

Because the client was hypersensitive on the outside, as well as the inside, the PT had her start “touching and stroking the inner side of the labia majora with a good water-based lubrication.”

This process, along with other at-home homework the PT gave her, proved beneficial for the client. It took some time, and a lot of work on the client’s end, but she was able to overcome her condition.

At first, the client was unsure how the vulvar and clitoral desensitization was important, but afterwards it all made sense to her. Basically, because she was so hypersensitive all over due to a childhood accident where she fell and landed on a bar between her legs (Again with the childhood accidents! Feel free to read about my childhood accident here), the PT explained that during sex her husband would end up touching the area around her vagina. If she remained hypersensitive, this would cause her PC muscles to tense and tighten, making it impossible and painful to have intercourse.

Thankfully, this PT was able to customize a treatment process specifically designed for her client to help her overcome vaginismus, and the client and her husband could finally have pain-free sex and start the family that they had been wanting.

Just remember that PT’s can only be a guide for us, but we are the ones in the driver’s seat.

“Since vaginismus is a lesser known condition, I didn’t have good luck finding help from regular ob-gyn and primary care doctors. I was pleasantly surprised when I came across a testimonial for PHRC on reddit. Within the first few sessions with Morgan I was sure that I was in the right hands and that this was the treatment I was looking for. Morgan had a holistic approach in helping me both physiologically and psychologically. She custom curated the sessions based on my progress which helped me immensely. I would strongly recommend others who are facing this condition to consult PHRC.”
