Here’s a quick question for you. I was recently told that using the term female sexual dysfunction is considered inappropriate and rude to women. How is this so? How is it rude to say female sexual dysfunction when we commonly use the phrase male sexual dysfunction?
The featured photo is the photo that I used when I mentioned that we should bring more awareness to female sexual dysfunction.
I’m honestly not trying to be rude by asking this question. I simply want to know why it’s considered inappropriate. It almost makes it seem like we are taking a step back by allowing the term to be used for men but not for women.
What are your thoughts on using this term for pelvic pain, like vaginismus?
I guess it would be worth considering who gets to decide what constitutes dysfunction, i.e. whether it’s the person experiencing the dysfunction or someone else making an arbitrary decision.
